Board of Directors

Carolyn Cross – Director

Carolyn Cross was one of the initial founders and financial supporters of Ondine Biomedical Inc. in 1999 and currently serves as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer and a director of the Company. Previously Ms. Cross was responsible for managing pension, pooled, mutual and private client funds as a Vice President with Royal Bank Investment Management Inc., the fund management arm of the Royal Bank of Canada. Ms. Cross has over 18 years’ direct experience with early stage companies, including serving on several boards of private companies, and has 25 years experience with public market securities. She holds a CFA designation, an MBA from York University and an Honours Business Administration degree from the University of Western Ontario.

Colin Watt – Director

Colin Watt is the President of Squall Capital Corp., a private Canadian based company which specializes in financing, restructuring and providing management services to early stage public companies. Mr. Watt is a director and officer of a number of junior public companies in Canada. Mr. Watt holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) from the University of British Columbia.

Margaret Shaw – Director

While at one of the largest independent mutual funds in Canada, Ms Shaw established and managed a department responsible for the measuring and monitoring of performance analytics, and adherence to investment protocols. Previously she had managed funds focusing on small and mid-sized emerging technologies. Margaret Shaw has over 30 years of experience in the capital markets. Ms Shaw has a Chartered Financial Analyst designation and a Bachelor of Mathematics degree from the University of Waterloo.

Michael Crane – Director

Michael Crane was appointed to the Board in May 2006. He is President of Michael R. Crane & Associates LLC, a dental industry consulting firm, which he founded in 1999. Michael R. Crane & Associates LLC provides assistance to companies in the areas of divestiture and acquisitions, technology licensing, strategic alliances, global expansion and business planning. Prior to 1999 Mr. Crane was an officer of Dentsply International, Inc. and held positions as Senior Vice President, North America Group and Senior Vice President, International Group. Dentsply, with its head office in York, Pennsylvania, USA, is the world’s largest manufacturer of dental materials, equipment and instruments. Mr. Crane has also held senior sales and marketing positions with Johnson and Johnson Dental Products Co. and Ortho Pharmaceutical (Canada) Ltd. He is on the board of directors of OSspray Ltd. a private limited company in the UK. Throughout his career he has been actively involved in the American Dental Trade Association and the International Dental Manufacturers Association. Mr. Crane holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of British Columbia.

Merrill Biel, MD, PhD, MBA – Director

Dr. Biel is a Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Minnesota, and is the Chancellor, Head and Neck Optical Diagnostics Society in London, England. Dr. Biel has been involved in the preclinical and clinical applications of photodynamic therapy since 1987, and is considered one of the world’s leading experts in the clinical use of photodynamic therapy. He is a founder of Advanced Photodynamic Technologies, which was acquired by Ondine Biomedical in 2009. Dr. Biel is a Founding Member of the Society for Minimally Invasive Therapy and a Fellow of the American Society for Laser Medicine & Surgery. He has published over 70 peer-reviewed articles, including 30 manuscripts and 4 book chapters on pre-clinical and clinical applications of photodynamic therapy. Dr. Biel has received numerous honors and awards, including, among others, the prestigious National Research Service Award from the US National Institute of Health.
